Serena Williams may be the GOAT of the tennis court, but it’s the ball field that’s inspiring her fall wardrobe.
The latest Serena Williams Design Crew capsule collection with Nike takes style notes from baseball, Los Angeles architecture and retro varsity touches, resulting in effortlessly sporty-chic essentials. Priced from $24 to $180, the womenswear line includes a tennis ball-inspired bomber jacket finished with embroidery and chenille patches, oversized short-sleeved baseball tops with matching open-hem pants, vintage-inspired shorts with “Los Angeles” embroidered on the back and stretchy cutout tank tops, to name a few.
Apparel comes in classic black with a metallic touch, deep red and dark peach colorways, while the collection’s all-white Victory Tech sneakers feature mesh accents, subtle gold hardware and sculptural elements that nod to the City of Angels. (The pair is finished with words of wisdom from Williams herself.)
For the collection’s campaign, Williams tapped soccer stars including Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos, Orlando Pride left back Carson Pickett and England women’s national soccer captain Leah Williamson; and South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team coach Dawn Staley. The fall SWDC x Nike line is part of the 23-time Grand Slam winner’s ongoing partnership with the sportswear brand founded in 2019 to champion diversity in design.
“I’m excited to continue my partnership with Nike and proud to provide emerging Los Angeles designers a platform to explore their craft and bring a touch of our dynamic LA edge to sport style in an influential way,” Williams says in a release.
The 43-year-old former tennis pro and entrepreneur was recently named one of Glamour magazine’s 2024 Global Women of the Year for her support of businesses mostly founded by women or people of color through her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures; her advocacy for Black maternal health and gender equality in sports; and her portfolio of brands that includes Wyn Beauty line (which offers products such as hydrating foundations in 36 shades and long-wear eye pencils and concealers) and her Will Perform brand of body care designed for active lifestyles.
Beyond the tennis court and board room, her titles include International UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, film producer (she and sister Venus Williams executive produced the biopic King Richard inspired by their father) and — surprise! — a certified nail technician, to name just a few.
