Boardwalk Empire Star Says Accuser Had Rape Fantasy and Admitted to Making It Up

Shocking Claims Surface in New Court Filing

Michael Pitt, best known for his role in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, is turning the tables in a legal battle that has shadowed his career. In newly released court documents, the actor alleges that the woman accusing him of sexual assault and abuse had a history of fabricating events. Text messages submitted as evidence appear to show the accuser admitting to making up claims of violence and rape, framing them as part of a personal fantasy rather than actual experience.

Pitt’s attorney, Paul Townsend, included the texts in a request to modify the actor’s bail conditions so he can travel abroad for work. The documents reference a message allegedly sent by the accuser in April 2021, in which she writes, “I said that he has hit me and that he sexually assaulted me. That’s not at all what happened.” The same message describes her longstanding interest in violent sexual fantasies, even recounting a moment that she and Pitt later “laughed about.” According to Pitt, the messages provide crucial context to what he claims is a false narrative.

These statements come as Pitt faces a nine-count indictment in New York, including charges of assault, strangulation, and sexual abuse. The alleged incidents span from April 2020 to August 2021. Prosecutors have not yet responded publicly to the defense’s claims or the newly submitted texts.

Alleged Messages Paint a Different Picture

The text exchanges introduced in court also detail a pattern of emotional manipulation, according to Pitt. One message reportedly shows the accuser confessing she lied in case the relationship fell apart, writing, “I worry that it will end and I’ve made up lies about him so if it does the people around me will tell me it’s okay.” Pitt argues that this context is vital to understanding the case against him and suggests it undermines the prosecution’s foundation.

In another message, the woman allegedly admits to trying to provoke Pitt by talking about other sexual partners. She reportedly wrote about sending a nude photo to a director of photography from one of Pitt’s films, saying she wanted to make him jealous. “Michael has ruined it,” she added, according to the filing. The defense claims this behavior reflects a personal vendetta rather than the result of genuine abuse.

Pitt also states that the woman had expressed romantic feelings toward him early in their relationship, despite later allegations. Her message, “I’ve been falling in love with him since I met him,” was submitted by his team as further evidence of what they call inconsistency and emotional manipulation. Whether or not these messages will affect the court’s decision remains to be seen.

Bail Challenge and Career on the Line

Michael Pitt was granted bail following his arrest, but under strict conditions that currently prevent him from traveling internationally. His legal team is now asking the court to reconsider those terms, arguing that most of his income depends on overseas work. They claim the original bail restrictions were imposed based on “a gross misrepresentation of the facts.”

During his arraignment, Pitt’s lawyer identified the accuser as an ex-girlfriend who worked at The Box, a high-end erotic nightclub in New York. He described her role as a performer who often appeared nude on aerial ropes or trapeze. The defense is using this background to frame her accusations as stemming from a shared yet complicated relationship dynamic, rather than criminal behavior.

While the court has yet to rule on the motion to alter Pitt’s bail terms, the stakes are high. If convicted, the actor could face serious prison time. But with these newly disclosed messages, Pitt is mounting an aggressive defense—one that suggests the narrative presented so far may not be as straightforward as it seems.
