Julio Peña joins Nicole Wallace and Josh Heuston in Amazon MGM’s Throttled
The Spanish actor known for Netflix's Through My Window trilogy has signed on to play a racing driver in the film adaptation of Lauren Asher's romance novel.

Julio Peña has been cast in Throttled, an Amazon MGM romance film adaptation of the opening novel in Lauren Asher’s Dirty Air series. The Spanish actor, known for Netflix’s Through My Window trilogy, will portray Santi Alatorre, an older brother character involved in competitive racing.
Peña joins cast members Nicole Wallace, who plays his sister Maya Alatorre, and Josh Heuston, who portrays Noah Slade, Santi’s teammate and rival on the circuit. Wallace appeared in the Culpa Mia trilogy, while Heuston starred in Off Campus. The three actors announced Peña’s casting with a social media video in which Wallace and Heuston are seen talking before Peña interrupts to join them, with Heuston welcoming him to the team and Peña joking, “Just stay away from my sister.”
The Film and Creative Team
Throttled centers on an ambitious woman who enters her brother’s world on the Formula One racing circuit and becomes involved in a forbidden romance with his ruthless teammate and rival. Melissa Osborne, who worked on My Fault: London and My Oxford Year, adapted the screenplay from Asher’s 2020 novel. Nzingha Stewart, credited for Daisy Jones & the Six, will direct the project.
Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are lead producers. Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment are also producing; they worked together on The Last Sunrise, an adaptation of Anna Todd’s romance bestseller for Prime Video. Garrett Grant is among the producers as well. Alison Small of Brownstone Productions and Asher have executive producer credits.
Peña’s Recent Work
Peña gained international attention through the Through My Window trilogy, adapted from Ariana Godoy’s Hidalgo Brothers book series. The first film in that trilogy drew 68 million views within its opening fortnight on Netflix in February 2022. He earned a Goya Award nomination for best new actor for his performance in The Captive, a 16th-century drama helmed by Alejandro Amenábar that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. Peña also appears in Berlin, a Netflix spinoff based on Money Heist, and has signed on for an upcoming Meta series inspired by the A24 horror film Talk to Me.
Throttled joins Amazon MGM’s growing catalogue of film adaptations based on published works, a slate that includes Off Campus, Every Year After and The Love Hypothesis. Asher’s Dirty Air series comprises four novels total, with Throttled representing the first adaptation from that collection.
