Melitta Baumeister and Nike have unveiled a new head-to-toe collection that merges the designer’s sculptural approach to activewear with Nike’s technical expertise. According to the CFDA, the collaboration marks a natural extension of Baumeister’s experimental design language and her fascination with form and movement.

At the center of the collection is the Rift Rocker, a reinterpretation of Nike’s unconventional Rift silhouette that introduces an entirely new form. The shoe departs from Baumeister’s previous Nike collaborations, which centered on the Vomero and Pegasus models. For this design, the designer developed the midsole by working in clay in her own studio, with the final result drawing cues from automotive design and ceramics. The finished shoe carries hand impressions, clay-worked eyelets, and an MB Swoosh detail on the waffle outsole.

Sculptural Ready-to-Wear

The collection extends beyond footwear into ready-to-wear pieces marked by the same attention to form and materiality. A sculptural tracksuit comprises a twisted jacket paired with dramatically curved trousers whose structured, boned legs create the illusion of movement even when stationary. An oversized reversible puffer jacket doubles as a backpack, featuring concealed graphics drawn by hand and openings at the underarms. A playful clay-nose keychain provides an unexpected finishing touch across the range.

Handcrafted Details Throughout

The designer’s mark appears across every element of the collection, from zipper pulls to snaps and cord stops, according to the CFDA. All of these components began as clay pieces shaped at Baumeister’s hand before being incorporated into the final designs. This level of personal involvement reinforces the partnership’s focus on merging artisanal creation with technical innovation across the range.

Campaign and Partnership

The collection’s campaign features multidisciplinary artist Kembra Pfahler. The collaboration demonstrates how the designer and the athletic brand speak a shared language around Baumeister’s approach to activewear.
