Blue Ivy Carter, 14, took the stage with her father Jay-Z on Friday night at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, playing piano during live performances of “The Story of O.J.” and “Dead Presidents.” The appearance marked part of the JAŸ-Z30 Tour, which celebrates three decades of the rapper’s music.

During the performance, Blue Ivy played the piano while her father performed. As the final note sounded, Jay-Z pretended to bow to her musical ability before the two embraced onstage. She then acknowledged the crowd before leaving the stage, wearing a blue-and-red vintage Rocawear jacket and silver chrome nails.

A family affair

This was not Blue Ivy’s first appearance on the tour. She previously performed at Jay-Z’s July concert at Yankee Stadium in New York City, where she also played piano. “Make some noise for the legendary Blue Ivy Carter,” Jay-Z announced to the crowd at that show.

Blue Ivy is Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s oldest child. The couple married in 2008 and have two younger children as well. Over the years, Blue Ivy has pursued performance work, appearing as a dancer in her mother’s recent tour performances.

Natural talent

In a March interview with GQ, Jay-Z discussed his daughter’s musical abilities. “Blue is a crazy pianist, but she won’t let us get her a teacher,” he said. “She doesn’t want it to be a job. But she has perfect pitch.” “That’s just talent, she doesn’t work at that,” he said, contrasting her instinctive approach to music with the discipline required for her dance performances. “I don’t think we’re going to be able to get her off that stage now.”

Tour details

The Friday show at SoFi Stadium was one of two consecutive Los Angeles performances on the tour. Jay-Z is scheduled to perform at the venue again on Saturday, October 24, and will go on to headline the halftime show at the Super Bowl next February, which will also take place at SoFi Stadium, according to reports.

The tour features more than Blue Ivy’s piano performances. Prerecorded video segments shown during the shows include footage of moments from Jay-Z’s personal life, including a scene involving his hair transformation, which he undertook as a way to teach his children to embrace their natural locks.
