Mother, the California apparel brand founded on denim, has partnered with Amoeba Music, the Berkeley-based record store, on a new capsule collection for the 2026 holidays. The collaboration draws on the brand’s California roots and centers on the culture of searching through bins for unexpected finds, according to WWD.

The partnership builds on Mother’s track record of music-focused collaborations with artists including Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Orville Peck. The creative team sees music and fashion as naturally intertwined, with musical moments serving as ongoing inspiration for the brand’s direction and consumer identity.

The Collection

The capsule comprises six unisex styles and accessories. The lineup includes a white denim jacket with assorted punk-inspired pins, white carpenter pants, a pair of co-branded sneakers, and tees and sweatshirts that rework the Amoeba logo with rainbow coloring. A record-carrying tote rounds out the offering. According to the brand, the pieces range from $125 to $385 and are being distributed through motherdenim.com and select retail partners worldwide.

The Inspiration

The partnership holds particular significance for Mother’s founders. One cofounder emphasized that the store felt like a natural fit given the brand’s California heritage and its own visual language around discovery. “It’s a place where you can lose an afternoon digging through records and come out with something you didn’t know you were looking for,” the founder said in a statement. “That sense of discovery, individuality and finding your own taste is very Mother.”

The record store’s appeal extends beyond commerce to represent something larger in the brand’s storytelling. The appeal of spending extended time hunting through bins and stumbling onto the unexpected, paired with a philosophy of slower living, sits at the heart of how Mother positions itself to consumers.

Expanding Beyond Denim

The partnership marks Mother’s latest move to broaden its footprint beyond its founding category. The brand has grown to encompass multiple product categories, campaigns and experiences since its denim launch. According to the company, collaborations allow the brand to “step into different worlds and play with new ideas” that expand its creative range beyond typical offerings.
