The Center Brands and Dr. Mamina Turegano take over Boscia skincare

The beauty accelerator and dermatologist are reimagining the Japanese-rooted skincare brand with a direct-to-consumer launch slated for early 2027.

The Center Brands, a beauty accelerator founded by Ben Bennett, and Dr. Mamina Turegano, a triple board-certified dermatologist, have acquired Boscia from FANCL, the Japanese cosmetics company that originally launched the skincare brand in California in 2002. The partners plan to relaunch Boscia as a direct-to-consumer operation in the first quarter of 2027.

The acquisition preserves Boscia’s foundation in Japanese skincare philosophy and traditional rituals while layering in contemporary dermatological expertise and modern formulation technology, according to the announcement. The brand’s name merges “botanical” and “science.”

A personal connection

For Dr. Turegano, the deal carries deeper resonance. She shares Boscia’s Japanese heritage and was shaped by skincare practices she learned from her mother and grandmother. “Those rituals were part of my childhood with my mother and grandmother, and they still shape how I think about skincare,” she said. “I’m excited to bring that connection and my perspective as a triple board-certified dermatologist to Boscia.”

Dr. Turegano trained in dermatology at Georgetown University as a chief resident, then specialized in dermatopathology at UCLA. Based in New Orleans, she has developed an online presence sharing dermatologically sound skincare advice, frequently referencing her mother’s anti-aging wisdom.

The Center’s portfolio strategy

Bennett said the appeal of Boscia lay in its storied past, its Japanese skincare sensibility, and the consumer loyalty the brand had built. “Dr. Mamina Turegano shares that appreciation and brings a deeply personal connection to the brand,” he said. “Together, we have the distinct honor of taking what made Boscia special and advancing that unique sensibility into the future.”

The Center operates on a co-builder model, providing strategic oversight, infrastructure support, creative guidance, and market development. Its portfolio spans Prequel, CYKLAR, MAKE Beauty, Proper, Phlur, Saltair, and Naturium. Three portfolio companies have been acquired by larger players: Phlur went to TSG Consumer in 2025, Saltair to TSG Consumer in 2026, and Naturium to e.l.f. Beauty in 2023.

The relaunch vision

The reimagined Boscia will emphasize the sensory pleasure and sense of ritual that characterized the original brand, informed by current standards for product performance, efficacy validation, and safety protocols, according to the announcement.
